Street Style Photography: Trendspotting at London Fashion Week for Pinterest

This London Fashion Week, Pinterest tapped me in once again to be their dedicated street style photographer, spotting the trends that are defining tomorrow’s style. I approached strangers for street portraits and documented street fashion that stood out from the crowd at London Fashion Week AW26.

I first worked with Pinterest last season, spotting the spring and summer trends at London Fashion Week SS26. The street style images we created won Pinterest an international advertising award and cemented this season’s return of the “Spotted by Pinterest” series.

Where does London sit within the Fashion Week world?

New York Fashion Week is known for brands that seek commercial success. Think mass market appeal.

Milan Fashion Week, having shot Milan’s street fashion last year, is known for craftsmanship.

Paris Fashion Week, the king of them all, is known for power.

I returned from Paris’ AW26 menswear week, photographing street style for LE MILE magazine and men’s looks for The Rakish Gent magazine (including an editorial with the rapper Shallipopi), amazed by the backdrops, street fashion, guests, and the city as a whole, drawing me back again for womenswear week this coming weekend.

As a street photographer in London, an individualistic style is what sets London apart. In Paris, with brands that are household names, guests understand the assignment and dress to that designer. For example, everyone knows exactly what to expect at a Rick Owens show.

London Fashion Week is known for emerging talent.

London is where J.W. Anderson found his footing, now boasting numerous concurrent Creative Director positions, including Dior.

Because of the volume of small, emerging designers, guests apply their individualistic style and flair to the gifted pieces each unique designer sends their way. You don’t see the big names; you see creativity, ingenuity, and different perspectives that mega brands wash over.

The British Fashion Council offers an accessible platform and runway space for these designers to share their collections with the world. Even King Charles III offered his support this season by sitting front row at the Tolu Cooker show at the 180 Strand NEWGEN presentation space.

London is the perfect street fashion melting pot for Pinterest: documenting street style that’s accessible, unique, and simply fun. London’s style inspires all generations to rethink the items already in their wardrobe, giving new life to trends and styles that may have once been forgotten.

To vary the perspectives, I shot with two different cameras: my Canon R5 with a 24-70mm f/2.8 and a diffusion filter for defined details and flattering portraits, alongside a Fujifilm X100V with an added flash for a filmic, vintage point-and-shoot camera look. Here are the emerging fashion trends we saw emerging on London’s streets across guests and models alike:

• Plaid
• Ballet flats
• Lace layers
• Faux fur
• Animal print
• High-neck jackets
• Aviators and bangle bracelets
• Fringes and tassels

In addition to the trendspotting scavenger hunt Pinterest sent style expert Leanne Bebbington and me on, both LE MILE magazine and The Rakish Gent magazine commissioned me once more to document street fashion details for their publications, this time in London, during my off hours with Pinterest.

For LE MILE magazine, OUTSIDE THE SHOWS: *That’s London Fashion Week AW26 editorial focused on the details, day-in-the-life moments, head-turning looks, and the contrast of personal style against the crowds.

On the other hand, The Rakish Gent magazine’s Between the Shows: Street Style at London Fashion Week collection sought carefully curated menswear style and fashion: an emphasis on fully completed looks and colour palettes that will carry through this year’s fall and winter seasons.
