Ian’s approach is built around helping people feel at ease before focusing on the photo itself. Time is taken to build familiarity ahead of the shoot, and on the day, sessions begin without pressure, often easing in with conversation before introducing the camera.
The direction is clear and practical, covering where to stand, where to look, and how to hold yourself without overcomplicating the process. As the session progresses, small adjustments are made in real time, allowing each person to settle into a version of themselves that feels natural and confident.
Ian’s camera is connected to a laptop so subjects can see the images as they’re taken, share feedback, and help put together a formula that offers that person’s best angle. No decisions need to be made on the shoot day – a customised selection gallery will be sent afterwards for individuals to select their favourites, and will also provide an opportunity for them to receive recommendations from others (including Ian).
For teams, this creates consistency across multiple portraits without forcing a one-size-fits-all approach, resulting in headshots that feel relaxed, professional, and true to the individual.
