Fashion photographer London: Ian Kobylanski
Commercial & Editorial Fashion Photography
Fashion photography by Ian Kobylanski.
London-based editorial and commercial fashion photographer and director. From Vancouver, Canada, Ian’s fashion photography draws storytelling inspiration from his London street photography, the urban locations of his street-style photography, and the relaxed posing and expression of his lifestyle photography, with a focus on subjects who aren’t often models.
With over a decade of experience, Ian creates still and motion visuals that feel natural – as if the camera wasn’t there. He makes relaxed-feeling portraits feel effortless.
Ian’s photography work, commissioned by brands, music artists, and public figures worldwide, reflects a relationship-based directing style and an eye for set design. His curated location scouting suits the polish of advertising campaigns and the adaptability of documentary-style editorials.

Fashion photography inspired by London’s streets
Ian’s fashion photography is shaped by his London street photography – working intimately and up close, reacting quickly, and finding moments within movement rather than forcing them.
His broader body of street photography from around the world informs how he reads people and environments, bringing nuance and humour that contrast with the recurring sense of editorial seriousness. Rather than separating subject from setting, Ian builds scenes around them, allowing expression, styling, and location to interact naturally.
This approach is reinforced by compositions inspired by urban architecture in travel photography, using lines, structure, and geometry to frame subjects intentionally and adaptively.

Street style at Fashion Week
Working across London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks, Ian documents street style, focusing on expression, movement, and the energy between the shows and beyond static scenes.
Commissioned by platforms and publications including Pinterest, The Rakish Gent, and LE MILE, Ian works with style experts and approaches strangers to curate looks for tomorrow’s moodboards and inspiration. Subjects are captured in their environment, either mid-conversation or in a quick, endearing portrait, resulting in imagery that feels immediate and personal.
This crossover between street photography disciplines and fashion informs his approach to lifestyle photography and commissioned work, where even structured shoots retain a sense of spontaneity and authenticity.

Fashion photography defined by scene-making
Ian’s fashion photography is marked by purposeful posing, low angles, bold colour contrasts, architectural framing, natural-light accents, and urban, geometric textures.
In his editorial work, Ian matches his subjects’ environments to storytelling, planning “scenes” built around the subjects: interactions with set design and the wider environment to facilitate organic moments – the backbone of his approach to personal branding portraiture.
Whether shooting outdoors or in his East London studio, Ian plans each frame to be authentic to the subject's personality – or the storyline inspired by his observations through street photography, creating images that are dynamic, evocative, and true to the streets of London and the nature of Vancouver.
